Reaching "someday"

Reaching "someday"

Verse one:
My heart is a cage
A prison for my soul
A pulsing, beating
Thirst for control

Pounding, crashing
up against my chest
Bruises blooming
A dark blue burden crest

Verse two:
My shoulders are gates
Under lock and key
Determined to contain
To never set me free

Tangled with daisies,
Roses, and ivy
Twisting and coiling
Into metal weeds

Verse three:
My being is a chamber
It's purpose is to hold
To keep me from leading
An army of my own

It covers my lips
So that I cannot sing
My speeches and tirades
That soar on stain glass wings

Chorus:
Lose control
Hear your heart instead of a drum roll
Chase your ghosts
Catch them as they take what you love most
Run away
Staying put is how they get their way
Break restraints
Fleeing is the first step to reaching 'someday'
