Excerpt from "The Unfortunates" Narrator: Pazel #1

Pazel
You take your time walking in the meadow, humming and occasionally stopping to pick flowers. You weave them into your hair as you go along, your feet bare and little charms dangling and tinkling around your ankles. Your hair falls in tight blond curls around your tanned elbows. Your flowing skirt tickles the tops of your kneecaps. You smile, letting the wind tug the hair out of your face as you breathe in the scent of daisies. You carry an inchworm on your shoulder, occasionally redirecting it so that it doesn't fall. You've decided to name him Felix. It sounds like an awfully good name for an inchworm, you think.
Sand starts to show itself in the grass the farther and farther you walk. You can smell salt in the air and can hear the crashing of waves just a small distance away. You think it's a lovely day to go to the beach. Excitement shines in your grey eyes as you smile even broader.

You place Felix on a pebble up shore, asking him to please stay there and wait for you. You tell him goodbye and sprint to the surf, not bothering to take off your collection of necklaces and charms. They look pretty in the water anyways.
You dive into the salty spray, kicking your way past the labyrinth of harsh waves keeping you near the land. You open your eyes under the sea. The water is a sparkling, clear blue.
